LYSFALD – Four seasons composed for a theme park after dark

Out west the day is going down into a dark and roaring sea. The last gold catches the tallest tree in the forest, and when the sun disappears, the light breaks out. A whole year begins to turn around you in a single evening. Spring comes up through the trees. In summer you can almost taste the strawberries and hear the bees. Then the leaves turn, the air goes white and cold, and something passes overhead at speed through a landscape of ice. Somewhere a voice is asking you to let in the light and the dark both, and to follow it, a traveller in sound and light.

The bats – the night sky comes alive over the forest

MOSBEFÆNGTE MOGENS – An orchestral tale with animation about the only troll with no moss

Go north until the trees close over your head and the night sky begins to flicker green. This forest belongs to the trolls. They are enormous, older than the paths, and they wear their riches on their bodies: moss, thick and soft, and it grows in the shade. Once a year they hold a contest only trolls could have invented, and the forest floor shakes under it. High on a hill stands the biggest of them, the only one with nothing growing on him at all. Now something small has walked in under the trees, and when the two of them meet, it is the troll who wakes up frightened.

The night begins with nothing. Black water, a cold sky, everything still to come. Then lights lift away from the lake, and the dark starts listening. A voice high above asks for a sun, and a sun is put together in front of you. A winter tree stands against the night, and when the voice asks for a starry sky, the stars oblige. Northern lights unfold over it all. A whole year passes over your head in a single evening, and not once do you look down.

Three of them cut their palms in the dark and swear to hold together, whatever comes. One of them hides her hair under a cap, hair that no knife, no scissors, nothing at all can take from her. The first time she uses it, her friends get over the wall and she is carried away, to a tower with no door and no stairs. Her braid becomes a rope for the two who keep her. Whoever stands below and says the words, she must let up. One day a voice calls that she has never heard before.

First comes the sound. Long before you reach the river, the forest is already singing, insects low in the leaves, birds high in the canopy, rain moving in from somewhere you cannot see. This world has sung to itself for longer than anyone remembers, and it does not stop for you. But stand still, and out of all that noise a melody rises, an old one, carried by people who have lived under these trees all along. They know the forest by its voice. Every dancer in this menagerie has a partner chosen for them. Man and woman, pair by pair, held in step by a beat that never asks. Then two of the dancers fall in love, both of them men, and the power that rules this place sees it at once, because the power that rules this place is one enormous eye. What it sees, it hates. CLOCKWORK – A concert you climb: a forest tower wound up and walked as one great clock

The path in leads through an old forest. At the end of it a tower rises out of the trees, and inside the tower sleeps a clock. Before it can run it must be wound, and winding a clock this size means letting time run backwards, hour by hour, until the whole machine is taut. Then it is your turn. This clock has no hands, so you become one. You climb, and every turn of the climb holds its own hour, its own light, its own weight. Somewhere above you the sun is on its way down, and the clock will not wait for anyone.

Death has come close for the first time, and it took the oldest person you knew. His room is still his, warm, old, safe, as if he had only just stood up. Grief this size does not fit in a child, so it comes out as rage, and then as the strange quiet after rage, and nobody can explain it away. But something is left. A warmth that will not cool, a melody that will not stop turning, and a hand reaching for a pencil. This is where the drawing begins.

This ship moves only when everyone aboard pulls the same way. The sails are set, but it is not wind they are waiting for. Somewhere out there lies a treasure, hidden and abandoned, and only a crew of the right mind will find the way in. The charts know four directions, and all four have been searched: a coast, a lot of weather, no treasure. Whatever you are hunting is not where ships usually go. So the bow swings toward open water, the deck tilts under your boots, and the sea starts to answer. You are crew now. Hold on.

The captain never sets foot on stage. He exists only as a voice, built from the first line to speak the local language wherever the ship sails.

On a little farm outside the city, the pigs are asleep, and all of them are dreaming of the same place. Once a year a truck comes for the biggest of them and drives them off to the place where dreams come true. One of them is too small for the truck. She has practised her singing, she thinks of her youth as finished, and her biggest dream is to sing on a stage, no matter what it takes. Her best friend is big enough for both of them. When the engine starts, she runs.

A boy stands at the edge of the water. His mother is out there, swimming, and he cannot make himself jump in. Something long and dark is moving under the surface. In this country the monsters are real. A serpent rises from the deep. A troll walks after sundown, and the ground shakes under its steps. There is a devil who can be tricked, and at the end of it all a dragon. They come out of Christianity, Norse myth and folk belief, and they have been here longer than anyone. The boy is afraid. Whether a monster can be beaten at all is what he is about to find out.

The ring is ready, the act is rehearsed, and the prize is a princess's favour. Everyone knows what a princess looks like, young and lovely in a horse-drawn carriage. Unless she is an older lady on a scooter. In this circus the ring turns into a giant candy machine, and a moment later you are inside a spy story. Norms turn somersaults until the imaginary sawdust sprays, and stereotypes put on clown noses until you are pleasantly dizzy. Somewhere out in the dark, a boxing kangaroo is dancing.

Met with attempted censorship on its tour, the show played on and set the debate going.

It has been there all along, a hand's breadth out of sight. A green world folded into this one, where small keepers tend everything that grows, pushing the sap up the trunks and walking the rain down to the roots. At its heart stands a tree that holds it all together, and the tree is slowly dying. The keepers cannot mend it alone. They have been watching for someone who can learn what they know, someone who can call the elements back into balance. They have been watching you.

Dragons crouch on the roof of an old theatre, and people say it was the dragons who blew out the fuse the night the garden burned. A spring once drew crowds for nothing more than cold water served in fine glasses. A flea in a harness of thin platinum wire was fed on its keeper's arm. Champagne corks are set into a railing exactly where they pop in the music, so that anyone can follow along. The garden tells its official history every day. These are the other stories, the hidden ones. Walk close enough, and they are told to you. In Frederikshavn the same app carries Denmark’s only poetry park: song walks and an audio guide give the town’s poems a voice.

KØBSTADEN & KRIGEN OM VARTEGNET – Two theatre concerts about Frederikshavn, sung in front of its old powder tower

In 2018 the town turned two hundred, and two centuries of Frederikshavn were told in songs: the fishing village that needed a bigger harbour, the islands, the quarry, the shipyard, the ferries. A year later the story came back to the tower itself, and to the 1970s, when the town argued for years about Krudttårnet until the 4,500-tonne landmark was moved 270 metres in one piece. Both were played outdoors in the evening, right in front of the tower, with the town's history projected onto its walls.

Ahead wait strong women, a self-appointed guru and the past you both agreed to forget. You are a careful man, the kind life runs over. And the tape is leading you somewhere you have never been.

Make ready. Birds and wind, then cheering, clapping, voices in another language calling the start. Pedals find their rhythm, a bell rings somewhere ahead, and the road drops into shadow. Then a car door, an air horn, metal on asphalt, and the whole field goes down around you. Get up. Wheels again, motors, faster now, the clapping doubling, and the last stretch climbs toward the light. You cross the line in slow motion, into fireworks.

Children's Song Workshop

The drum rolls and the ring lights up. A clown walks in with the blues, playing his bad day for laughs and getting them every time. There is a princess in this circus too, and somebody backstage knows a magic word and cannot wait to use it. One act tumbles into the next, the way children build a circus, everything they love in one ring at once. Find a seat where you can see everything. The show runs at playground speed, and it does not slow down for grown-ups.

They say there is a land where the firebird lives. That is all anyone really knows, and it is enough. You fall in with a fellowship going the same way, out along a road that pulls at you the further you walk it. Somewhere ahead a fire has been burning since before anyone can remember, and in that fire lives a bird that dies in flames and will not stay dead. The road is long. Some stretches of it are kind, and some are not. But you are going to find the phoenix. Everything else can wait.

The music runs in the Fønix area as a fixed part of the experience, agreed for unlimited use

Mobile Game Music

Everything in this land hums. Honey stands stacked in pots, webs hang where you least want them, and the locals do not talk so much as sing. Give them half a reason and they break into harmony: grinning barbershop, strutting disco, a pun never far behind. The spiders are cheeky rather than cruel, the trouble is real but never grave, and the songs treat all of it as one more excuse to sing. You came in to help with a small task. You stay because the welcome will not stop humming.
